Chief Instructor | Great! You have made the decision to become a certified paraglider pilot. This program is a thorough and intensive course designed to produce a safe, confident and competent pilot. During this program you will learn GROUND HANDLING, glider aerodynamics, meteorology, thermal flying, ridge soaring, flight maneuvers, flying procedures and how to have 100% fun flying safley. The flying part of the course starts in the Wilderness (Cape Town ground handling) where the mild weather conditions and forgiving sand dunes provide gentle low take offs and soft landings for your first solo flights. Here we focus on launching, landing and flight techniques through intensive ground handling and repetitious flights, before progressing to mountains. The course length is variable, the average student taking 9 days to complete the logged flight and skill requirements and Basic License written exam. If we cannot finish in the time span we reserve the following weekend for you to complete your flights at one of the sites around Cape Town. |
You will have the greatest success in paragliding if you can immerse yourself in the course and then continue with regular flying, perfecting your ground handling and aerial skills long after you have completed the course. Paragliding is a never ending learning experience. If you require more than 12 days, or 6 weeks from your initial lessons to complete your Basic Licence course, additional fees will be required. Private lessons are available at R300/hour. A place on the bus costs R450. Please phone or email us at least three days before hand to book. |  |  | Saturday morning, at 08h30, we meet at Pomodoro Restaurant (Wilderness) and start the course after everybody has completed all the paperwork and has their Sahpa Manual. Don't forget to bring your sunglasses, sunscreen, lots of water, something light to snack on, your manual and proof of payment, + some energy to spare

Student Tali - After action satisfaction | After completion of the course you will have acquired the skill and knowledge to fly without direct instructor supervision at most of the sites in South Africa. But you are still a beginner and you should be flying with experienced pilots, or instructors. If you wish you can come and fly with us during our courses at half price until you feel that you have learned enough to go out on your own. The rate per day is R 350 plus transport cost if needed. The Wallend-Air course is internationally recognized and the beginning of your free-flying career.

|  | For those who live in Cape Town, you have the option to join the Glen Paragliding Club. Our clubhouse is at Clifton, directly below Lions Head, our home flying site. For you to fly at this site you will need a Wild Card, Glen Club membership, two sign offs by instructor and 3 by a club observer. This is to introduce you to our special mountain and flying conditions from Lion’s Head. The landing zone is the green field in the picture to the left. |
